The Challenge

A large bank located in a smaller community contacted Manhattan Resources needing to find a Vice President for their firm with at least 5 years of experience in commercial lending.

The Roadblock

  • Bankers are very sensitive regarding titles. Initially the title for this position was proposed by the client as commercial relationship manager. With the required experience needed, most the qualified candidates were at the level of assistant Vice President or above. The title made the position feel and appear to be a step down for the candidates with the right experience level.
  • Bankers are very loyal to their bank and their community. Finding one that would be willing to move would prove difficult, without sufficient motivation.
  • Many experienced bankers are heavily recruited and as such are reluctant to discuss opportunities without a unique approach.

The Solution

Manhattan Resources worked with the client to change the title of the position to Vice President of commercial lending. We then did an exhaustive search with more than 280 candidates reviewed.

This candidate had local roots in both the community and the banking industry. The candidate was well known and respected — a very attractive attribute for the client. The client credited Manhattan Resources with the ability to secure such a prestigious candidate for the position.

The client was so pleased with the results, they returned in three months with a request for Manhattan Resources to fill two additional, similar roles.
